Boardroom furniture has certainly changed quite a bit in the last ten years. Like all office furniture, the reason for this change is very simple. Chairs, desks and even boardroom furniture have evolved to meet the needs of the information age. That need of course was brought on by business and personal computers. While we do still pass printed reports around conference room tables, we also spin monitors and slide laptops to one another. We teleconference with associates from all around the world.
As such, the trend in meeting room furniture is towards lighter more versatile chairs and tables. Wide high backed executive office chairs are impressive but they are not as easy to zip around in as an armless mesh office chair with ergonomic design elements. Likewise, groupings of smaller round meeting tables facilitate our breaking down into work groups. Considering the cost of office space today we are hardly in a position to just lock away a room and never use it but 6 times a year.
